Olisa Agbakoba Legal (OAL) is delighted to have advised the Federal Ministry of Justice on the National Policy on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution, 2023. The policy aims to establish fundamental principles to guide the Federal and State government’s participation in arbitration references, and position Nigeria as an attractive arbitration hub for domestic, regional, and international commercial arbitration whilst protecting national interest.
Over the years, the practice of arbitration and ADR in Nigeria has faced a number of issues including a lack of adequate patronage and institutional development. To address these challenges, a National Arbitration Committee was constituted by the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, CON to articulate a National Policy on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
OAL played a critical role in the policy’s conceptualization, risk analysis, adoption, documentation, and negotiation. OAL was represented by Dr Olisa Agbakoba SAN who was Chairman of the National Arbitration Policy Committee.
