Udenna Michael Chukwulobe is an Executive Senior Associate at Olisa Agbakoba Legal, with over 17 years of post-call experience distinguished by depth, versatility, and a consistently results-driven approach to legal practice. He is a core member of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice Group and is widely recognized for handling complex, high-value, and precedent-setting matters across multiple sectors.

His practice spans dispute resolution, maritime law, insolvency and business recovery, human rights, environmental justice, real estate, and commercial law. He is particularly noted for his strategic litigation approach, exceptional drafting expertise, and strong courtroom advocacy, having appeared before trial and appellate courts across Nigeria, including the Supreme Court. Udenna has built a reputation for delivering commercially sound and legally robust outcomes in contentious and regulatory-sensitive matters.

He has extensive experience advising and representing clients in complex litigation, maritime disputes, regulatory interpretation, debt recovery, and insolvency proceedings. His ability to navigate intricate legal and institutional frameworks has resulted in a strong track record of successful outcomes, particularly in high-stakes and multi-party disputes involving public institutions, financial institutions, and multinational entities.

Prior to joining Olisa Agbakoba Legal, Udenna held leadership roles across reputable law firms. At Probity Chambers, he led the litigation practice, and at Okonjo, Odiawa & Ebie (OOE), he served as Head of Chambers, managing a team of over ten lawyers and driving strategic litigation and firm-wide operations. At Olisa Agbakoba Legal, he has continued to provide leadership as Practice Manager and Coordinator of the Dispute Resolution Practice Group, contributing significantly to litigation strategy, team development, and client service delivery.

Udenna holds an LL.B (Hons) from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010. He obtained an LL.M from the University of Lagos, with specialization in International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law, Comparative Company Law, Criminal Law, Compulsory Acquisition, and Environmental and Planning Law. He is currently at the final stage of his doctoral research in International Environmental Law at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, focusing on a rights-based approach to environmental justice in Nigeria.

Beyond practice, he is a respected thought leader with a strong record of academic and policy contributions. He has authored several publications in reputable local and international journals and regularly speaks at conferences and professional forums on emerging issues in environmental law, human rights, insolvency, and regulatory practice.

  • Acted as part of the legal team in a landmark pre-election dispute (Ifeyinwen Anazonwu v Anugbogu), representing clients up to the Supreme Court, where the Court, for the first time, extended the strict timeline for compilation of records in pre-election appeals based on exceptional circumstances.
  • Represented key maritime regulators, including NIMASA and the Nigerian Ports Authority, in a high-profile dispute involving the interpretation of the Cabotage Act, successfully establishing the classification of offshore rigs as vessels for cabotage compliance.
  • Represented the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in securing a favourable judicial interpretation of a Federal Government Executive Order relating to port charges imposed by terminal operators.
  • Advises on an ongoing high-value commercial dispute involving the Central Bank of Nigeria and major oil companies, with claims exceeding ₦3 trillion.
  • Led and executed multiple debt recovery mandates for leading financial institutions, including First Bank, Polaris Bank, Fidelity Bank, and GTBank, delivering successful recoveries across complex portfolios.
  • Successfully executed vessel arrests and enforcement actions in maritime claims on behalf of financial institutions, strengthening creditor recovery strategies within the shipping sector.
