OAL Successfully Represents Global Shipbuilder in Historic FPSO Arrest, Recovering Millions in Outstanding Debt

OAL successfully represented one of the world’s largest shipbuilders in a historic ship arrest, which is considered the largest in the history of the Nigerian maritime industry.

The client is a global leader in shipbuilding, engineering, procurement, fabrication & integration, assembling, construction, and offshore oil & gas industries in Africa, operates world-class fabrication and integration facilities. Samsung retained OAL to pursue a claim against a vessel, an FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading) capable of producing up to 40,000 barrels of oil daily and storing 720,000 barrels of oil. The vessel, sailing under the flag of Marshall Islands, was subject to arrest due to outstanding financial obligations.

The arrest of the FPSO was a complex and unprecedented operation. Due to the size and location of the vessel, the process necessitated a temporary closure of Nigerian international waters. Through meticulous planning and expert execution, we successfully removed the FPSO from its location, ultimately recovering millions of US dollars in outstanding debt for our client.
